Hello gamers,

Wow it’s a new month already. Episode 5 of Muffles’ Life Sentence has been in testing for a few weeks and let me tell you- things are… mostly… going well there!

Endings are hard. And I want to give this game the best final chapter possible. You all deserve it. I want to deliver the best game I can- it’s just a matter of figuring out the right way to make it all happen.

And today, I want to talk about an exciting part of episode 5- and how everyone reading this can (legitimately) make an impact on Muffles’ New Game Plus!

The end isn’t the end

For those who don’t know, New Game+ (NG+) is a way to replay a game, often ones with substantial story and game progression, while carrying over your levels, skills, stats, etc. In order to balance things, the ‘plus’ part of NG+ adds some changes to the game, often scaling enemy difficulty up and adding new challenges.

The challenge for these modes is figuring out how many new things to offer in an NG+. Only a subsection of players will ever encounter it, but those that do will LOVE additional features, secret content, and being able to build up their characters higher than ever possible in a single play-through.

A big reason I’m adding a NG+ mode to Muffles is because I’ve started adding more hidden content and puzzles that you might miss on a single playthrough, as well as adding rewards like new color palettes that some players want to use on earlier areas of the game.

The new content is special boss music

In addition to scaling up enemies in combat, certain fights will have brand new, alternative fight music! I thought this could be a fun way to give something extra to future playthroughs, while at the same time not being so exclusive that people feel pressured to play again if they aren’t feeling it.

Episode 5 is coming so soon. A huge thank you to the patrons and discord members who have given so much helpful feedback on story, mechanics, pacing, and a ton of other things. I’ll keep saying it until I’m a broken record- Muffles wouldn’t be half the game it is without you.

I’m not even joking- Bossy might have stopped halfway if not for y’all. And what a freakin’ shame that would have been.
